But what about the sand and that line that you drew

thjeco 135 points * (edited 2h ago) (3 children)

“That line in the sand, was it even worth it?
'Cause the way I see people turning's
Makin' it seem worthless, it's startin' to defeat the purpose
I'm watchin' my fan base shrink to thirds
And I was just tryin' to do the right thing, but word
Has the court of public opinion reached a verdict
Or still yet to be determined?
'Cause I'm determined to be me, critiqued or worshipped
But if I could go back, I'd at least reword it”

MMLP2 was the best one since The Eminem Show. Most of his records since TES have been really, REALLY forgettable.

Incredibly telling.

AgentCirceLuna • points

I’d say it’s telling when the average person, privileged enough to do the same, isn’t there to help if it goes wrong for someone or is mysteriously still doing quite well for themselves despite all the ‘sacrifices’

Fragrant-Anywhere489 444 points (2 children)

the line in the sand only applies to fans. Not best friends. He just traded a million Stans for a ride in a Black Hawk.

Inkqueen12 53 points (1 child)

The black hawk must have blew away the line in the sand.

PovasTheOne 122 points (1 child)

Unless that sand is somewhere with no wind, that line wont be there for long.

AgentCirceLuna • points

Decent analogy for most people’s moral changes then. As soon as there’s blowback then the line disappears.

Ok let's just ignore politics for a second, what about the fact that Kid Rock fucking sucks?

Of course Eminem can say "liberal and evangelical can agree".

They're both rich enough to be immune to anything negative from Maga while one actively grifts and or supports it.

It's easier to remain friends if nothing they influence affects them.

Even before the Trump stuff, Kid Rock was a tool. I don’t understand why he would defend him now.

Xylamyla 64 points (4 children)

Is he defending Kid Rock and his political opinions? Or is he just defending doing a music collab with a longtime friend? Because those are two different things.

Fragrant-Anywhere489 30 points

He's amplifying Kid Rock's message by lending his credibility to his projects. Kid Rock is on Fox & Friends calling El-Sayed a terrorist. Kid Rock doesn't live or vote in Michigan. Eminem does. Kid Rock is so irrelevant that his Trump shows fail miserably. Remember the Trump Super Bowl Halftime show that no one watched? The Freedom concerts that were cancelled? Just by having Em attached to this album gives it attention. Eminem is the G.O.A.T. Kid Rock is a goat. There's a big difference.

Tom Morello is as left wing as it gets, and he is friends with Kid Rock, and Kid used to give Tom's mother Pistons tickets.

Frankly, it's nice to see people who are different politically that can be friends and work together. It moderates people and moves them further from right or left wing extremism.

Russia has a long running social media campaign with the aim of dividing America into 2 groups that hate each other. Anything that works against that is a good thing.

It's a shame America isn't a 3 party system with a centrist party.

Edit... 3 party system. Everyone has a different idea of what centrist is. If Democrats are centrist, then a left wing party.

EmeraldJunkie 17 points (1 child)

If this was 20 or so years ago I'd be inclined to agree, but the state of the modern Republican party and how they're choosing to run the United States. I'm fairly left wing and I can certainly see the appeal and logic of certain right wing views, but then I look at the Republicans, ICE, embezzlement, corruption, the list is endless. It's little about different opinions but more about how one party is seemingly hell bent on dismantling any checks and balances in favour of fattening their wallets and removing the rights of their citizens.

When I was a kid I wanted nothing more than to move to the US. I fully believed in every bit of Bush and Obama era propaganda that told me that the US was where dreams could come true. The last decade shattered that dream with a mallet.

InstructionFinal5190 53 points (1 child)

We are at a point where one political party doesn't believe certain groups of people have the right to exist. That same political party is executing American citizens on the streets and is applauding it.

You are either for or against that, and I for one am not going to let by gones be by gones if someone is for it. Fuck em and the horse they rode in on.

Pyyric 29 points (1 child)

lol, what would a centrist party in america be even? Support both Ukraine and Israel? Only slightly fascist? Support trans people's right to exist but only if they stay in their own houses forever?

Democrats on a global scale are right of center already. We do not have a left wing party.

FormerShitPoster 25 points

It's a shame America doesn't have a left wing party. Democrats are the centrist party but anything left of Reagan makes American conservatives shit their diapers.

stingeragent 116 points (12 children)

They have been friends long before trump came around. Being conservative or democrat didn't used to mean you would be lifelong enemies. Unfortunately the current political landscape has made it so.

NorthernDevil 227 points * (edited 2h ago) (1 child)

It’s not like that happened in a vacuum. It’s easy to be friends when you disagree on things like foreign and fiscal policy. Less easy when you disagree on things like rounding up every immigrant and keeping them in camps for months in violation of the Constitution, or whether we should ban books in school libraries, or whether hospitals should be permitted to provide every effective treatment to at-risk pregnant women without fear of criminal reprisal.

Or, more pointedly, when you disagree on the importance of an underage sexual trafficking ring that heavily implicates a political leader.

When what’s considered “political” focuses so heavily on a lot of people’s ability to live a safe, healthy life, that changes the dynamic. Escalation always changes things.

You can’t really expect people to write those kinds of disagreements off just because they’ve now become “political” disputes, can you?

megalodondon 39 points

Thank you. I am so sick of people gaslighting this shit CONSTANTLY because they either agree with this or can't stand to admit their 'rap God' is a fuckin tool

Sulinia 120 points * (edited 2h ago) (1 child)

Let's be honest. Kid Rock's political opinions goes beyond just being conservative or a democrat. He's waved his colors and thoughts about politics to the point where any person/friend with some kind of spine would sit down and talk to him or cut him off.

sacrecide 34 points (1 child)

Kid rock wrote a song about how he loved commiting statutory rape

Gay_Giraffe_1773 41 points (1 child)

When "one side" of the political landscape promotes or enables the elimination and/or extermination of people I love and care about, it ceases to be about "disagreements". Yes, we probably have common ground on certain things, but those hateful viewpoints are dealbreakers for me to consider them "friends". I will work and interact with them because I have to for my livelihood, but I will never trust them or count on them for anything personal in my life again.

DialecticalDeathDryv 63 points (1 child)

Kid Rock is basically single handledly responsible for all of the public hate and backlash against Dylan Mulvaney.

It’s weird to me that you’d look at something like that and be like “why can’t we just put our differences aside?”

Well exactly. Why did kid rock have to launch an international hate campaign against another person? Why didn’t he just live and let live?

guysitsausername 🔊 Eclectic & Dyslexic 🤘 305 points (6 children)

One of the many things that bugs me about this is the line "Liberal and evangelical can agree," which feeds into the tired, false trope endlessly spouted by right-wing extremists that anyone who is not conservative or Republican must be an atheist or godless. It's not just wrong. It's a deliberate falsehood spread to indoctrinate people into hating the "other side" as a way to gin up votes out of division and anger.

For most people, faith has nothing to do with political ideology. Plenty of people on both sides are believers, and plenty of people on both sides live their lives as if there is no God.

onewilybobkat 88 points (2 children)

Jesus teaches shit that is antithetical to everything Republicans believe. If they don't keep painting liberals as godless heathens we might notice that there's nothing Christian about anything they do or say.

If there's a war against Christianity, they are the invading force.

guysitsausername 🔊 Eclectic & Dyslexic 🤘 23 points

I couldn't agree more. Most so called evangelicals I have known are also the most worldly and ignorant of scripture. They cherry pick things that confirm their existing bias, quote out of context and use only one part of a passage which ignores or contradicts the true intended message.

This is why when someone asks for loyalty you should give them integrity instead.

Too many people think loyalty is some kind of virtue.

Not promoting awful people would be the correct move? But hey he's an old friend - it's like it's supposed to justify it just because most of us also have problem old friends.

SoreLoserOfDumbtown 2 points (1 child)

Fwiw, I've had old friends be problematic, and during those periods I'd make myself available for conversation, but I wouldn't embark on an artist project or business venture with them.

obxtalldude 2 points

Yeah I've got a couple that are balancing acts because of addiction.

I want to be a resource but I don't want to be an enabler.

It's tough when they are still in denial.

"We're just friends and making music together". Then why are you rapping politics with the politics guy on a politics album, Marshall? GTFO of here with your denials. There's a big difference between being friends and doing business together. Em's literally pissing at the same urinal with Kid Rock and everybody can see it.

Pod people. It's all about their fairy tale imaginary friend and in-group identity.

Actions speak louder than words.

You are who you associate yourself with.

Is it ok to be friends with someone who has wildly different opinions? Or should we shun our friends completely? I truly hate KR. I'm not a stan either. I'm definitely not a MAGA.

o_o_o_f 12 points

I mean, there is a pretty clear difference between maintaining a normal friendship with someone who’s become very political in their professional life, and collaborating professionally with that person.

democharge92 23 points (1 child)

Can we stop framing deplorable shit as just “different opinions”. If someone said the age of consent should be 12 would you say they are just wildly different opinions and then hang out with them?

tatianazr 26 points (1 child)

If my friends are racist.. then yes. I would shun them. Not that hard

Madbiscuitz 4 points (1 child)

Like any of us have friends.

anon33249038 27 points (3 children)

I'm big fan of downvotes.

Yes, it's perfectly fine, and I would even encourage having friends of differing opinions.

What if they support nonces?

SoCalThrowAway7 33 points (2 children)

There are some opinions that I can’t stomach other people having. Like if someone thinks some inherent characteristic, like skin color or sexuality, disqualifies someone else from basic human rights, then that’s not something I can just say “agree to disagree” on. I can disagree all day with someone on where tax dollars should go and still be friends with them, I can’t be friends with a Nazi though.

jdanielregan 13 points (1 child)

And KR’s outspoken bigotry towards trans people is disqualifying from my friendship circle.

People need to stop crying about stupid shit like this, nobody is gonna get hurt from 2 people making a song together. Redditors need to grow up and touch some grass..
