well one human was a small child who fell in by accident, the other was a grown man who was determined to jump into the tiger enclosure-to the point of overpowering a woman who tried to stop him from jumping into the enclosure
Also harambee not only didn't harm the child but very clearly made every effort to protect it from the other gorillas and the crowd
Exactly. He was clearly attempting to hog all the tender human veal all to himself!
I thought we were chicken
That was not Harambe.
You are thinking about Jambo the male Silverback who actively protected a child who fell into the gorilla enclosure in 1986 on Jersey Zoo.
Harambe was actively harming the child and refused to disengage even after the other gorillas followed zookeeker instructions and left the area.
Yeah, this narrative that Harambe wasn't doing anything is straight up wrong. There were multiple witness statements where they all corroborated that Harambe was violently throwing the child around, shoving him to the ground and holding him under water.
There's even a video where you can hear people screaming in fear.
Wait what did I miss?
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c60qk8djj27po tldr is last week a man was killed after jumping into a zoo tiger enclosure
Thank you.
Holy crap.
The self-employed online trader
Lmao he's from wallstreetbets.
It all makes sense.
Nowhere in the article you linked is said that someone tried to stop him from going in the enclosure. It is written though that the man was suffering from schizophrenia.
Not arguing that any animal should be killed, or spared in spite of a human life, but your argument isn't a good one.
What happened in the Yorkshire tiger attack? Inquest shares cause of death from post-mortem I only linked one article, but other articles have additional details
Thanks!
media literacy everyone
For real, the commenter just links an article to explain what happened and the reply is someone thinking the commenter is the one making the argument. Wild
Just literacy in general these days, people are beyond stupid anymore
And that’s what counts in the Reddit comments
Its a human being that died. Likely not in their right mind because they jumped in a tiger enclosure. What are you even trying to compare here? Is the child more deserving of protection? It's just sad. Glad the tiger didn't get hurt. In the best case we wouldn't even keep gorillas and tigers in small enclosures and zoos to be stressed out by hundreds of people. And no one would fall or be able to jump in their enclosures either.
Yeah, I think there's a real problem with having a bridge over a tiger enclosure. It just doesn't seem reasonable to me.
EDIT: for those talking about him climbing two fences, the fences are adjacent to one another and one is raised above the other. It appears to me that a good leap from the bridge can take you over both fences. I think that's a real problem.
He climbed 2 fences to get into the enclosure.
One of the fences is directly adjacent to and somewhat below the other. Please watch this video if you don't understand what I mean. They aren't two independent barriers. A good leap from the bridge can take you over both, it seems.
Don't see how that makes a difference.
They wewe right not killing the tiger, they shouldn't have killed Harambe either.
They should have killed the tiger if they had the chance before the man died. The personnel simply weren't quick enough. Intentionally allowing a human being to die for the sake of an animal is manslaughter under English law.
hahahahahaha..
Not to be annoying but are those seriously the criteria? I feel like there is probably something else
That grown man was mentally challenged and his care taker wasn't nearby
If true (idk, just learn about this), that's just terrible.
This grown man was intellectually disabled. 🤦 🤦
No he wasn't. That was an assumption people made early on based on what appeared to be him using sign language with the tiger, but he's since been identified and was not intellectually disabled, but he did apparently have a history of schizophrenia
Dicks out for Harambe.
It’s coming full circle. If you know you know.
American discovering that the UK’s solution to a problem, isn’t shooting things in the face.
And they just had another school shooting recently too
That's just one that reached the news here. If you search, you'll find they had a lot more
As an American, I've woken up multiple times just this week alone to see headlines about various school shootings. I believe in this country less and less every day that I wake up in it
How you guys doing with that event at arndale manchester mall abt a month ago?
Not going to lie went to see what you were on about and first thing that pops up is some kids stabbing each other 5 minutes ago in the carpark.
wow. The first article that popped up was published 6 minutes before their post. Talk about topical.
Well that's even more recent, so there it is. No hate on yall, bro is just acting like large scale violence with a deadly weapon is an exclusively american thing.
Large scale violence in 1st world countries is exclusively an American thing.
Source:
Am American. Higher stabbings and shootings per capita than our first world country counterparts.
There is still less homicides in the UK every year from guns, than a single month in Chicago.
With 65 million more people in the UK than Chicago.
Right. No need to kill people directly when you can just refuse to supply air conditioners and let the heat waves kill them off for you
I will give you that
6 of my kids died this summer due to lack of AC and ice in their drinks
What? I thought Americans only had mass shootings?
Not even, and the arndale manchester mall was a stabbing with multiple victims, but dude was acting like large scale violence with a deadly weapon is exclusive to america.
The US also has more deaths from stabbings than the UK.
Mass shootings in America is a everyday normal thing.
So are stabbings in the UK
And yet the UK doesn’t have a systemic problem similar to the US.
UK has a ban on guns and their stabbings are still less per capita than the US
And how many people die from the heat and cold again?
What idiotic argument are you trying to make?
Do people genuinely not know that significantly more people die to heat and cold in the uk than in the us?
And its not because of a major difference in weather but because of housing and infrastructure
This is such strawman behavior
"We don't have mass shootings"
"What bout the stabbings?"
"The stabbings are still less than yours."
"Well What about the heatwaves?!"
No matter what they respond with, you're just going to move the goal post again.
Banning guns/ enforcing heavy gun rules and regulations is 1000's times easier than doing the same for knives
So are stabbings in the UK
Also more common in the US.
Pick something the US is actually ranked better at.
I don't think it was a conscious decision, because saving an animal over a human could open them up to criminal liability for manslaughter. I think they just didn't reach him in time.
It's because the tiger had already killed him by the time an armed response could get there.
If Harambe had torn that kid in half (as he could have done easily) then Harambe would still be alive. But because Harambe was a gentle giant, he died for our sins. And the world has been punished ever since.
Harambe is the jesus of our millennial. Who says the son of god would be in human form
If Harambe had torn that kid in half (as he could have done easily) then Harambe would still be alive.
I doubt it, he wouldnt be in a zoo for people to just come see at the very least lol. Dogs get put down for biting people.
Harambe died a hero, the tiger lived long enough to become the villain
I think the difference is the little boy was with Harambe 10+ mins and they couldn’t separate them safely so to protect the boy and staff they decided to kill Harambe. The man who purposely jumped in the tiger enclosure was only there for 2 mins before he was killed by the tiger. Wasn’t enough time for the zoo to react. If the man was dead by the time they could get the gun there is no point to shot the tiger. Point of the story, Harambe should have acted faster.
That took a dark turn in the end.
So now we now and we need to enlist the world’s researchers to invent a Time Machine. Then someone can go back in time and give Harambe a gun
Harambe was black. That's why
Orange privilege
as a ginger, i can confirm this happens
Someone jumped in your enclosure too?
Hahaha I wish I could give more upvotes
As an American I can confirm this is true
Harambe’s death marked the starting of our world’s decline
That was the split where we took the wrong path.
It broke temporality and sent us into a deteriorating timeline
This is what I've been saying, there must be a descendant of harambe or something we can save to set the world right!
It's about time we start talking about tiger privilege.
It’s pretty privilege. Tigers are the most beautiful creatures in the world so get an easy pass at everything.
So just to put some stuff out their.
This zoo probably learnt from the mistakes with harambe that just killing the animal isn't right and people will not let it go.
But also, the Amur tiger is incredibly endangered. With around 400-600 of its species left.
Harambe was a western lowland gorilla that still has a population of over 300k (still low but nowhere near as low)
Aswell, different zoo, different zoo keepers, different time. Still tho i agree with not killing animals that are just living their life. If your dumb enough to jump into an enclosure with a dangerous animal then you kinda deserve the outcome
I mean, Harambe being shot could potentially save a still living child. The dude in the UK was already dead. Killing the tiger prevented nothing at that point.
If harambe had killed that kid immediately, he’d be alive, it’s kinda fucked up but that’s why get gets the halo he sacrificed himself
Harambe is happy, humans have learned from his sacrifice
Two tier zookeeping.
one grown man vs one small child who fell by an accident
but fine farm your karma
It's not that, the zoo personnel didn't reach the man in time to save him. It's not that they made the choice to let the man die.
It's not that... If the tiger was a man eater they would've put it down. This is the policy of that zoo. The death was an accidental death as per reports.
It doesn't matter if the kid fell in by accident or on purpose, and it doesn't matter how old the kid was.
If an adult purposefully climbed into a zoo enclosure, and a gorilla started dragging them around the enclosure for 10 minutes, that gorilla would be shot to protect the safety of the human.
Harambe's first mistake was not listening to the zookeepers when they signaled him to return inside, and his second mistake was not killing the kid more quickly.
https://giphy.com/gifs/RBDLuqxYZCCkM
he wouldn’t have been killed if he was white
Maybe we finally have corrected the timeline. Took a decade long detour and now we're back
Was his face really ripped off? I've seen some videos of it tapping and nipping the dude, as if to say, this is my space you better leave.
Well, he died, so presumably, at some point, it got more intense.
How did they manage to cover it up so well? I haven't been able to find a longer video of that event.
Not so much a coverup as zoos are mainly just moms with kids. Not exactly the demographic to pull their phone out and record something so violent
The tiger shot him
A tiger playing with you can punch you at 800 or 900 pounds, if it stands on you it will squash you.
A tiger trying to kill you can literally knock your head off or break your spinal column in multiple places with one shot.
The tiger punched him to death without even meaning to.
The inquest into his death said the tiger bit his neck, so it def was trying to kill him.
The tiger did nothing wrong. It was simply being a tiger. It's a shame the man's mental illness wasn't being managed properly.
They removed the full video but might on some parts of the dark web?
Difference between an American zoo and a British one.
Difference bewteen pre-incident and post-incident. They didn't shoot harambe to punish him.
Sorry no, if the Tiger became a man eater they would've put it down. The death was accidental according to all reports.
Could also be of the location of the guns and where the shooter staff wass. I internd at a zoo, the guns were kept at the front of the zoo and per day there was at least one certified shooter. So the walking back and forth can take up some time.
The tiger was pretty quickly done with killing the man (at least I hope for him) and after it happened there isn't that big of a reason to kill the tiger. And of course you need to add in the fact that it's an endangered species so that might have added with not killing the animal.
Double standard.
Racism
If a child was involved then that tiger would have been killed
Well not much you can do after the face is ripped off
Ik it's a meme but they probably wouldn't have killed harambe had he killed the child first( i think). Didn't they kill him to save the child?
There is no need to be upset
Harambe died for like 1% of the sins of humanity’s cruelty of animals
Stupid adult versus stupid kid
Harambe died so Altai could maul
They ruined entire timeline with harambe so they not risking it again...
He was already dead by the time they could do anything, the child was still saveable.
Also merica' so guns are the solution.
Bro looking down wondering where this double standard was in 2016.
Tiger more expensive than gorilla , it's simple economics
Just wait untill he hears about Bokito
His mistake was not killing the kid right away, then there’d be no reason to kill him
Gorillas are expected to be closer to humans. Cats are expected to be killers.
Slightly different situation but okay
lo siento harambe
I think they learn from Harambe incident. After they killed Harambe, the world turned up side down day by day. They won't make the same mistake, not when the world already in the bring of impending disaster.
The dude brought it upon himself, the kid was innocent and needed to be saved.
IIRC Harambe was shot to keep him from hurting the child and rescuers. Tranquilizers would've taken too long to take effect and they would've likely turned him violent and unpredictable for a few minutes.
I'm sure better protocols have been put in place since.
Someone’s
They didn't want to repeat 2020

Adult vs child?
Sort of a random question but I'm betting on the adult
Adult was dumb enough to jump into the tiger enclosure, so they will underestinate the child and lose
Obvious Tiger privilege
DICKS OUT FOR HARAMBE!!!
Context?
There is a HUGE difference between the two cases.
RIP Harambe!!!
Day, when world fcked up. Harambe [*]
Human like cat. Human no like ape. Simple.
Cocks at half mast for Harambe
He died so that they may live… and we may die ?
In my city, people with mental illnesses can apply for free yearly zoo passes.
I wonder if William Chapman had such a pass.
The Tiger did what Tigers do. Harambe was weak and did nothing.
Harambe was not killed punitively after the fact. Someone was on scene with a gun while the situation was ongoing. Not so in the tiger situation.
Fur colour discrimination!
Difference between the two was, Harambe could still be stopped.
Like, the kid was still alive and Harambe was handling him in a way that could have changed this fact in the minutes to come.
The guy who got killed by the tiger was dead long before someone could have intervened.
Killing the tiger now would just be punishment, which wouldn't make a whole lot of sense.
And no, before you start babbling about the tiger having tasted blood and now being dangerous or anything, that's not how it works. Human blood isn't somehow addictive. Big cats usually become man-eaters when they're weakened or hurt in some way and discover that humans are easier to hunt than their natural prey. A big cat in a zoo that literally gets free meals isn't gonna develop a craving for human flesh just because it killed one once.
there's a big difference between and stupid idiot jumping into a tiger enclosure and a child who's parent wasn't paying attention to him. and yes it was the parents fault that that poor creature had to be put down.
Anyone have a link to the full attack on video or know where to find it?
This really highlights the inconsistent outrage based on which animal species is involved in tragedy
Or, this zoo learnt from the past mistakes
To add, the Amur tigers population is about 400-600 left.
Harambe was a western lowland gorilla. They have a population of over 300k
Humans have a population of 8 billion. But we dont determine who to kill based on thst number.
Depends on who you speak to tbh
Oh! just because he’s a lowlander it’s ok for what they did? Nah these highlanders think too much.
Learned from past mistakes? If the Zoo intentionally allowed the animal to kill the man they would be liable for manslaughter. The authorities simply didn't get there in time to save the man.
True. But also, the guy made his choice. Id like to assume he knew he was getting into an enclosure with an animal that could easily kill him
The man had schizophrenia. We don't know if he was capable of appreciating the risk in the moment.

Cat privilege overall. No wonder people worshipped them. A big kitty can slaughter a man but start playing ball with his head and cat people will go awwww

I know everyone is memeing but if it was an adult that was in the harambe enclosure I doubt they would have killed him, especially if it was someone trying to go in, not by accident.

The Amur tiger, which this one was. Is only about 400-600 left. Maybe less.
Harambe, who was a western lowland gorilla have a population of over 300k
Not saying that makes it right but those are the numbers. Aswell Harambe was in the past and it caused a huge uproar. Do you not think this zoo has learnt from those mistakes?
EstablishmentLate532 24 points (1 child)
It wasn't a choice. If the zoo intentionally refused to save a man for the life of a tiger, they would have committed manslaughter. The personnel simply weren't quick enough to reach the man before tragedy occurred.
